With the passage of time, Terbutaline was used less and less for asthma and more and more for pregnant women. As this increased off-label use was occurring, scientists from around the world were conducting studies with alarming results. The studies showed that Terbutaline crossed the fetal blood-brain barrier and disrupted the development of the fetal brain. Further studies have shown a statistical link between certain Terbutaline exposure and increased rates of Autism Spectrum disorder.
