Medical Malpractice in delivery room

In this modern era, most babies are born safely and in good health. However, others are born with debilitating birth defects that will leave them dependent on others for the rest of their lives. Birth injuries like cerebral palsy, Erb’s palsy and various malformations can make it difficult, if not impossible, for those children to grow up and become fully functioning members of society. In some cases, the birth defects are the direct result of actions or inactions taken either in the delivery room or through the course of the pregnancy. 

There are many things that can go wrong in the delivery room. The use of obstetrical forceps or vacuum extraction to aid in the delivery and help the baby navigate the birth canal may lead to brain injury, oxygen deprivation or other injuries. Even after the baby is born, there are still risks that be delivery room staff should watch for. Meconium Aspiration Syndrome occurs when the infant inhales his or her own meconium and amniotic fluid, and it can result in the child choking to death. These are just some of the risks that delivery room personnel, doctors and nurses are charged with watching for and preventing.
